BEAUS BOWL | KEPOS STREET KITCHEN

#BeausBowl Log – Kepos Street Kitchen, Redfern – Friday 11/08/17

Friday rides have typically always been about riding somewhere with mates at a “relaxed pace” with more of a focus on the post ride park up. With the newly established Friday Nero bunch ride on the cards, I saw this as a good opportunity to highjack the role of Post Ride Park-up Coordinator.

This is a role not to be taken lightly as the Coordinator must ensure first and foremost adequate park-up followed by good coffee and food. Attaining the much coveted trifecta can present a tall order and narrows the list of suitable locations considerably.

Despite this through the recommendations of others (keep them coming!!!) and personal research I have developed a carefully constructed hit list for Sydney’s top café park-ups which should see out the Friday bunch rides well into the future.

On the agenda for today’s ride was Kepos Street Kitchen, an Israeli inspired café conveniently located off Bourke Street in Redfern right on the cusp of the city. Having just completed a Lapa loop a group of 20 or so of us parked up in the cul-de-sac adjacent to the café (5/5 in terms of adequate park-up).

I decided to order the Moroccan lamb with poached eggs and goats cheese. I was a bit dubious if this was a breakfast option but the wait staff assured me it was not a heavy meal and was a popular choice for breakfast.

To wash it down I ordered my standard long black (an excellent coffee to ascertain the barista craft of any coffee establishment).

In terms of the food and coffee I would rate the coffee 5/5 and my meal as 4.5/5. The meal was delicious loses half a chilli only because it is less breakfast orientated than I expected.

I have to admit I had some food envy for some of my compatriots who ordered simple croissants and sourdough toast and were treated to a smorgasbord of delectable jams and spreads to finish off with.

So overall, Kepos Street Kitchen gets a 4.5/5 on the #BeausChilliScale and definitely warrants a return in hopefully the not too distant future (perhaps for lunch next time though).

If you'd like to be part of our little culinary tour of Sydney's post ride cafe's. Feel free to join us every Friday morning. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for all the details.
